The giraffe can see the clouds
but cannot come back to earth
He can watch the birds
but never see the soil
The giraffe knows the stratosphere to remarkable precision
with vital smells and upbeat winds
But still forgets to feed his children
It can walk, but not run
reach but not squat
gaze but not peer
smell but not hear
Like everyone
It gawps at the stars
but sees nothing
It chews smoothly on lettuce for lunch
and lettuce for dinner
It runs in the evening,
and sleeps past dawn
It gawps at the stars
but sees nothing
It lives forever
and dies in the blink of an eye
