Falling in Place

People always come into your life slow, then all at once

It happens so fast you forget the life you had before them

You feel your head spin — dizzy with appreciation and galore

Your tongue tastes sweeter than the day before

Or any day at all

That you can remember

You feel excitement just in standing — like it’s coming up from the ground

You used to not stay in one place for too long

Now you don’t need to move much

Now you feel at rest with the world

Which you see as your nest

Now all the air around you is warmer

You feel a calm strength in your hands and your shoulders too feel light

But there’s not much turning around you need to do

Everywhere you are is just the right place

Everything you see is there where it should

Then you see her

And think you finally could,

Be free

Be exactly where

You need to be.
